This military project provides new Recruit Field Barracks at two sites at MCB Camp Pendleton, CA. The project consists of a group of barracks for the recruits, as well as Drill Instructor facilities and drill grounds. The design-build team of T.B. Penick and COAR Design Group (formerly Jeff Katz Architecture) as the Designer of Record (DOR) for the construction of P-1086, has provided a facility consisting of eight single-story barracks and one drill instructor structure at each site.
The structures will be constructed as Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings with pre-insulated Metal Wall Panels and standing seam metal roof above. The floor is concrete slab on grade and natural daylighting and ventilation techniques are utilized. The facility will be designed in accordance with UFC 04-010-01, DoD Minimum Antiterrorism Standards for Buildings, American with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines, and will achieve LEED Gold Certification. The project also incorporates a significantly sized solar power generation farm to offset most of the site's energy usage.
