Groundbreaking News — Construction Starts on Anaheim Fire Station No. 12
On March 4th, the City of Anaheim and Anaheim Fire & Rescue hosted a ceremonial groundbreaking for the new Anaheim Fire Station No. 12, marking the official start of construction.
This new station is located in the Platinum Triangle – a once industrial area that has expanded significantly over recent years. Shopping centers, sporting arenas, music venues, and other future growth is planned in the area as part of the OCVIBE™ entertainment district. The new Station No. 12 is part of the Anaheim Fire and Rescue Department and will provide quicker faster response times to support this growing Anaheim community.
The groundbreaking event was attended by several members of the community as well as Mayor Ashleigh Aitken, Public Works Director Rudy Emami, and City Council Members Kristen Maahs, Carlos A. Leon, Natalie Rubacalva, Ryan Balius, Norma Campos Kurtz, and Natalie Meeks.
Mayor Ashleigh Aitken arrived at the event on a historic fire apparatus from the early 1900s, demonstrating the long-standing history of Anaheim Fire & Rescue. Mayor Aitken’s speech reinforced this theme, touching on the history of the department, which is as old as the city itself, and just like the city has experienced significant growth in recent years. Now, Anaheim Fire & Rescue is made up of over 200 fire personnel, with this new station set to cut response times in half. Plus, the historic apparatus isn’t going anywhere! It will be housed in a special museum space in the reserve building for public viewing, honoring the history of this department in its newest station.
The 1.4-acre lot will host two buildings, a main station and a second reserve building for ambulances, equipment, and a museum space. The main station will feature ten bunks, two double-deep apparatus bays with support spaces, a fitness room, kitchen, dining room, and an integrated training platform. The reserve building includes two bays and the designated museum space to house the historic fire apparatus for public viewing.
The station comes with special significance, following the devastating wildfires in Southern California earlier this year. Several Anaheim firefighters were on the frontlines of the Eaton and Palisades fires and saw the devastation firsthand, working through long shifts with little rest. Anaheim Fire & Rescue worked tirelessly when Anaheim itself was on a red flag warning. In the aftermath, they hosted the Anaheim❤️LA Donation drive where members of the community came together to gather, donate, and deliver much-needed supplies to those affected by the LA fires.
COAR Project Manager Jennifer Arizala was excited to attend the groundbreaking event, sharing: “It is an exciting time for the City of Anaheim, and a long-awaited project. Watching the mayor ride in on the historic apparatus illustrated just how special this project is to the City and the community of the Platinum Triangle.”
We are so excited to watch this facility come to life to support the amazing work of the Anaheim Fire & Rescue Department.
