The Design-Build renovation of Lakeside Fire Station No. 3 modernized an active facility to meet the district’s functional needs while providing a comfortable living environment for the Fire Fighters. Renovations to the 10,000 square foot station included refreshing the existing exterior and maximizing interior space utilization.
The building exterior received the addition of a stone veneer, new siding, fresh paint, and new signage to compliment the Station’s rural surroundings and reestablish its civic presence in the community. Reinforced concrete shotcrete walls were added at various locations around the perimeter and in the interior of the building to meet current essential facilities seismic design criteria.
The interior of the facility received several enhancements to improve privacy, functionality, and durability. The reconfigured spaces include a refurbished three-bay apparatus room, 8 individual crew dormitory rooms for up to 16 fire fighters, 4 individual crew bathrooms, a public accessible restroom, office space, work spaces, an open kitchen, dining area and day room area, training room, and fitness room that include updated, durable finishes throughout.
The living quarters was designed to accommodate variations in gender makeup of fire personnel. The most important aspects of the layout of the renovated station include meeting all life safety code requirements while ensuring the most efficient and direct access to the Apparatus Bay from all areas of the station in order to minimize response time.
